CRYSTAL GLOBE
A gift to Mikhail Gorbachev from the American International
Hotel Corporation “Radisson”, 1990
This 55cm-high crystal globe is a reminder of the official visit of the Gorbachev
couple to the US. This gift marks the near end of the Cold War, in 1990. This is
one of the first corporate gifts to Mikhail Gorbachev, the first and only president
of the Soviet Union, who took efforts to improve relations with the Western world.
The official programme of the visit of the USSR president included
a meeting with the businesspeople from the Mid-West and a
visit to the state of Minnesota. The meeting with the American
gricultural executives took place at the “Radisson” corporation
hotel, which has its headquarters in the largest Minnesota city
of Minneapolis.

The crystal globe was a ceremonial gift
from the “global” Radisson chain,
running operations around the world as
well as in our country.

The inscription on the gift reads, “To President and Mrs Gorbachev
in the memory of your historic meeting with the leaders of Minnesota
of Minnesota in an effort to establish our Soviet American
partnership.
